Getting Started

At InStride Performance Therapy, every horse begins with a thoughtful intake process and an individualized program designed around their specific needs. Whether your horse is recovering from injury or working toward improved fitness and conditioning, our approach prioritizes safety, communication, and long-term soundness.

What to Expect

Most horses come to InStride through veterinary referral, though owners are welcome to contact us directly.

Once we receive your inquiry, we will review your horse’s history, current condition, and goals to determine the most appropriate program. When applicable, we collaborate with your veterinarian to ensure continuity of care and clear communication throughout the process.

To begin, we gather information about:

  • Your horse’s age and discipline
  • Whether the program is for rehabilitation or fitness and conditioning
  • Whether the horse will be hauling in or staying on-site
  • Relevant medical history, prior injuries, or surgeries
  • Current medications, supplements, and feed requirements
  • Behavioral considerations that may affect handling or training

Based on this information, we create a customized exercise and therapy program tailored to your horse’s needs.

We work closely with referring and attending veterinarians when applicable.

  • An acknowledgment document is shared with both the owner and veterinarian so everyone is aligned on the care plan
  • Veterinarians may provide input or request adjustments at any time
  • Weekly jog, wound, and progress photos or videos are shared with the veterinarian
  • Rechecks are typically scheduled by the veterinarian and owner unless a concern arises that requires attention sooner

All horses must provide:

  • A current Coggins
  • A 14-day health certificate

Health certificate requirements may change over time, but Coggins are always required.

For all horses, whether hauling in or staying on-site:

  • Photos are taken at the wash rack on arrival
  • Jog videos are recorded for baseline evaluation

These allow us to track soundness, muscle development, and overall progress throughout the program.

Owners can expect:

  • Regular updates every 2–3 days
  • Videos of their horse during spa sessions
  • Wash rack photos when weather permits

Update frequency may be adjusted based on the horse’s program, but consistent communication is a priority.

For safety and liability reasons:

  • Owners are asked to wait outside or in the office during the first few spa sessions
  • Once horses are comfortable, owner attendance may be revisited

Pricing varies based on program type, length of stay, and services provided. If you have questions about which program is the best fit for your horse, we are happy to discuss options with you.
